A Note from Megan: I’m excited to introduce you to Ella, our dedicated Austin Community Advocate, who contributed her wonderful insights to this blog post. Alongside Anna in NYC and Emily in Nashville, Ella is part of a dynamic team this semester whose hard work, passion, and support are truly invaluable to Live Music Project. It’s incredible to witness the impact they’re making in their communities.

I asked Ella to share a few thoughts on why she believes volunteering with LMP is a rewarding experience for music lovers like you. Take a moment to read her words below and discover the magic of joining us in amplifying local music.

Live Music Project: What We Do

Live Music Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of local early music, classical, and contemporary classical music performances in your area. Our mission focuses on strengthening community through empowering listener agency while amplifying the local music scene. LMP’s national/international calendar invites listeners to easily check out local musical events, and from a performer’s perspective, it’s a welcome hub for musicians to market their events without financial burden.

We believe that lack of resources should never hinder access to the arts — access to the arts begins with access to information about the arts. By spotlighting all the musical events in our communities, we foster relationships between musicians and audiences, ensuring that the hard work and expertise of these phenomenal artists is both seen and heard.

So, if you’re passionate about local arts, community building, and, of course, music, we would love to hear from you!

Find out more about volunteering with Calendar Squad or solo at https://www.livemusicproject.org/volunteer/.

How Can You Get Involved in Your Local Arts Community?

Whether you prefer collaborating with others or making your mark solo, there’s a place for you in our volunteer community. You can choose to join our Calendar Squad (the squad meets online every other Monday evening from 6:30pm-8:30pm Pacific time), working collectively with fellow music enthusiasts, or contribute in a soloistic way by independently sourcing and submitting events.

What’s it like? Well, grab your laptop, a cup of joe, and put on some of your favorite music! As a volunteer, your task would involve researching and sleuthing around your community and region for musical performances, concerts, open rehearsals, and other musical opportunities. Whether it’s symphonic orchestras, wind bands, chamber ensembles, or independent musicians, exploring these avenues along with events hosted by local arts venues, masterclasses, or student recitals can be incredibly rewarding. Once you’ve completed your search and collected performance information, simply enter it on the LMP Concert Calendar, where you can input all the necessary details about an event. This crucial step helps to strengthen community engagement and development while promoting the work of local artists. While most of the research can be done online, it’s always a great idea to visit venues in person to see what they have planned out, too!

Thank You for Your Support!

Congratulations! By submitting your research on concerts, you’ve helped composers, musicians, and performing arts organizations to promote and sustain their work, increase their visibility in the community, and tell the story of their craft. Your contribution towards building a better hub of information that uplifts performers and audiences alike is immensely valued — thank you!

As a bonus, you will discover countless concerts, musicians, and performances happening all the time in your own backyard — events that are now on your own radar! Become a musical explorer in your own city and experience all the wonderful, vibrant experiences happening in your community firsthand.

Interested? Take the next step by filling out our volunteer form at https://www.livemusicproject.org/volunteer/. We welcome volunteers from our Seattle, Portland, NYC, Baltimore/D.C., and Atlanta focus cities as well as passionate community advocates around the United States.

See you there!
— Ella P.
